The International Islamic Fiqh Academy holds its 162nd session

The International Islamic Fiqh Academy, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's standing body of jurists headquartered in Jeddah, held its 162nd weekly departmental meeting on 6 July, chaired by Secretary-General Prof. Koutoub Moustapha Sano. The Academy's activity this cycle also included an official visit to Rabat, where it signed a memorandum of understanding with Morocco's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and met with Dar al-Hadith al-Hassania and the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Publication of the Holy Qur'an. None of this is dramatic by design: the Academy exists to give the Muslim world's fatwa councils and financial institutions a shared, standing reference on contested contemporary questions, from Islamic finance structuring to bioethics, rather than leaving each jurisdiction to work the problem alone. A routine departmental meeting is unglamorous precisely because it is routine, and routine is the thing a standing, multi-country academy is built to produce.
